San Antonio's Shannon Johnson Closing in on 1,000 Assists and 2,500 Points

San Antonio guard Shannon Johnson is closing in on 1,000 assists (957 as of July 14) and 2,500 points (2,498 as of July14). Johnson is attempting to become the first player in WNBA history to score more than 2,000 points and reach 1,000 assists. With her next basket, she will become just the 21st player in WNBA history to eclipse the 2,500-point plateau. She is just 43 assists from reaching 1,000.
Sacramento's Ticha Penicheiro, Charlotte's Dawn Staley and former New York Liberty and Los Angeles Sparks' guard Teresa Weatherspoon all have over 1,000 assists, but none of them have cracked the 2,000 point plateau.
Ticha Penicheiro - 1,507 assists, 1,466 points (Sacramento Monarchs)
Dawn Staley - 1,144 assists, 1,891 points (Charlotte Sting)
