Sting become Flint's First Victim of Season

November 7, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Sarnia Sting News Release

The Sarnia Sting visited the Flint Firebirds on Wednesday morning.

With an 11:00 AM start time, it was the Firebirds' annual school-day game. Around 2,000 kids were in attendance from 20 different schools across the community.

In the first period, the Sting came out flying.

Sarnia defenceman Mitch Eliot scored two goals in twenty seconds to give us an early 2-0 lead. Eliot's first goal was a nifty give-and-go with Anthony Salinitri. Eliot's second tally of the day came from captain Ryan McGregor and winger Brayden Guy. Eliot is now up to six goals on the season.

Flint forward Jake Durham scored two goals in the first period for the home side. After twenty minutes of play, we had a 2-2 game.

Moving into the second frame, Kyle Harris scored his second of the campaign for Flint.

Sting forward Anthony Salinitri tied the game at 3-3 with a late shorthanded breakaway goal. Salinitri picked off a pass as the Firebirds attempted to enter our zone. Cruising in alone on Flint goalie Luke Cavallin, Salinitri sniped for his ninth of the year.

Durham completed his hat-trick just before the end of the second. Heading into the third, Flint held a 4-3 lead.

Firebirds forward Eric Uba scored a minute into the third period to give his team a 5-3 scoreboard advantage.

With five to play, Flint defenceman Hakon Nilsen scored on a point shot to extend the lead to 6-3.

Sting forward Sean Josling scored late to bring us within two. But the Firebirds replied with an empty-netter not long after.

The final score today was 7-4 for Flint.

Sarnia goalie Ethan Langevin made twenty-nine saves in the effort.
