Mobile BayBears News Release
Jackson, Ten. â Coming off of his last start in which he did not allow a hit, BayBears' starter Cory Stewart was nearly as impressive Thursday night as he led Mobile to their third straight win over West Tenn, 9-1.
Stewart (6-4) threw seven innings allowing just a first inning run and four hits. The left-hander also tied his season high with 10 strikeouts while walking no one. Stewart now leads the Southern League with 90 strikeouts.
With the score tied 1-1, the BayBears separated themselves from the Diamond Jaxx in the second. Jake Gautreau drove in BayBears newcomer Kevin Reinking with a double. Rico Washington then picked up an RBI with an infield groundout. Jon Knott, arguably the hottest hitter in the Southern League, followed with his league-leading 17th homerun of the season. The two-run blast, his third of the series, gave the BayBears a 5-1 lead.
The BayBears blew the game open with four more runs in the fifth. Each of the first five batters reached on a base hit. Reinking picked up his first Double-A RBI and Stewart added his second double of the night, driving in two.
The BayBears return home as they begin a four-game series against the Orlando Rays on Friday. RHP Duncan McAdoo (2-2; 3.27) will get the start on the mound for Mobile against Orlando's RHP Doug Waechter (5-3; 4.14).
Hank Aaron Stadium will be hosting a Father's Day weekend celebration. All children are invited to play catch with their fathers on the field prior to every game through the weekend from 6:00-6:30.
