Baltimore Mariners News Release
BALTIMORE, MD (June 19, 2010) - The Mariners return home after a hard fought battle against the Erie Storm at the Tullio Arena. Thanks to the last minute heroics of Mariners kicker J.R. Cipra, the Mariners preserved their undefeated season and went perfect on the road for the first time in franchise history. Now, they will look to sweep yet another eastern conference rival, as they welcome the New Jersey Revolution back to Baltimore and the 1st Mariner Arena. The Mariners have owned the Revolution lately, winning both games 68-23 and 61-27. The last meeting, the Revolution took it to the Mariners in the first half at the Mennan Arena in New Jersey. However, the Mariners with their back against the wall scored a couple of unanswered touchdowns and came out with another victory. In order for the Mariners to come out victorious against the Revolution, here are my keys to victory:
BEWARE OF NEMETH: Mariners quarterback E.J. Nemeth is still, in my opinion, the best quarterback in the AIFA. His ability to avoid the pressure and pull off miraculous touchdown passes is incredible, and the Revolution knows a thing or two about his skill and ability. Nemeth had some of his best games against the Revolution, totaling 12 touchdowns and racking up 165 yards in the first game and 263 yards in the second game. E.J. is always on his game, and he will need to be stellar in order for the Mariners to come out with a win.
HIGH SCORING OFFENSE: The Mariners have the highest scoring offense in the AIFA, averaging 62 points per game. The New Jersey Revolution defense in ranked last in the AIFA, giving up 63 points per game. The Revolution has already given up 129 total points against the Mariners, and Coach Moyseeko will look to game plan to put up more points against the worst ranked defense in the AIFA.
STINGY DEFENSE: The Mariners defense has been outstanding as of late, and they will look to continue to make life miserable for the Revolution. The Mariners defense has forced nine total turnovers against the Revolution. New Jersey quarterbacks have thrown 24 total interceptions. Defensive Coordinator Steve Gaunt will be looking for ways to rack up some more turnovers against New Jersey.
ARMED WITH ARMAR: Speaking of turnovers, Mariners defensive back Armar Watson loves to play against the New Jersey offense. Watson leads the AIFA in interceptions with 11 picks, and has picked apart the New Jersey pass offense, with six interceptions in two games.
This game is right for another Mariners victory this Saturday night at the 1st Mariner Arena. The Mariners have achieved many goals this season, but there are so many more goals to achieve for Coach Simpson and his team.
