SteelHounds Acquire Sewell

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - Youngstown SteelHounds Head Coach J.F. Laforest announced today that the SteelHounds have acquired right wing Joey Sewell from the Tulsa Oilers in exchange for future considerations.

Sewell, 24, has played four minor league seasons and 232 professional games seeing action in the Central Hockey League, United Hockey League and ECHL.

This season, the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native played in 19 games with the Amarillo Gorillas (CHL) scoring two goals with nine assists and 24 penalty minutes. On January 19th, Sewell was traded to Tulsa by Amarillo but never suited up for the Oilers. SteelHounds fans may remember Sewell from the December 9th Amarillo-Youngstown game when he led the Gorillas to a 10-3 victory over the Hounds notching four points (1-3=4) and a plus- 4.

The 6-0, 190-pound forward is coming off his best season where he established career-highs with 27 goals, 56 points and 123 penalty minutes while dressing in 71 games with Port Huron (UHL). His 56 points ranked third on the Beacons.

His best season in the CHL came during his first full professional season (2002-03) where he totaled 26 goals with 17 assists with the Laredo Bucks.

Sewell played 168 career junior games in the Ontario Hockey League with the Windsor Spitfires scoring 30 goals with 39 assists.
