Steelheads win at Dakota, 113-97

GARY, Indiana (February 1, 2006) In their most impressive road performance of the year, the Gary Steelheads defeated the Dakota Wizards in Bismarck, 113-97. For the first time this season, Gary won all seven quarter points on the road.

Gary prevailed in a high scoring first quarter, 31-30. The Steelheads built a six-point lead at halftime, winning the second quarter 28-23. They narrowly claimed the third quarter, 27-26, before pulling away 27-18 in the fourth quarter.

The Steelheads placed five players in double figures, paced by guard Jimmie Hunter with 27 points. He also contributed 8 assists and 7 rebounds. Forward Randy Holcomb tossed in 19 points with 9 rebounds, while guard Brian Chase added 18 points with 4 assists. Reserve Marlowe Currie picked up the slack with the departure of Edmund Saunders, scored 15 points with 7 rebounds. And center Chris Alexander contributed his second double-double performance in three nights with 18 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 8-for-12 from the field.

Damion Dantzler paced the Wizards with 21 points, while James Maye scored 19 points with 10 rebounds in a losing cause.

The Steelheads return home to face the Rockford Lightning in a battle of Eastern Conference leaders on Friday night at the Genesis Center. The two teams will then meet again in Gary on Saturday night.
