Boise, ID - The Idaho Steelheads, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Dallas Stars and the AHL's Iowa Stars, announced today the signing of defensemen Blake Forsyth and Tyrell Moulton.

Forsyth spent the 2004-2005 campaign with the Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League, making him the first member of the 2005-2006 Steelheads to have previously played for head coach and director of hockey operations, Derek Laxdal. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native recorded one goal and 10 assists in 56 regular season games as rookie with the Thunder. In addition, Forsyth's 119 penalty minutes during the regular season ranked fourth on the Thunder.

A 6'2", 205 lbs. blueliner, Forsyth attended the University of Manitoba before turning pro. In four years with the Bison, Forsyth compiled 20 goals and 47 assists, while averaging 88 penalty minutes a season.

"He is a great leader in the dressing room and a great character guy," Laxdal said of Forsyth, who turns 26 on September 4. He can play left defense or play up front [at a forward position]. [Forsyth] is one of the guys who isn't a pretty player, but he gets the job done. He is what this program is all about. It's going to be about character, leadership and winning."

Born in Cranbrook, British Columbia, Moulton just completed his fourth season of major junior hockey in the Western Hockey League. In 239 WHL contests, Moulton tallied eight goals and 43 assists for 51 points. The 20-year-old defenseman spent the 2004-2005 campaign with the Kamloops Blazers, registering 11 points and 124 penalty minutes in 61 regular season games. In addition to his one season with the Blazers, Moulton spent one and a half seasons with the Lethbridge Hurricanes (2001-2002) and the Prince George Cougars (2002-2004).

With Forsyth and Moulton in the fold, the Steelheads now have three forwards and four defensemen under contract for the upcoming season.

The Steelheads open their third ECHL season at home on October 21against the Long Beach Ice Dogs.
