
Steelheads Host Yakama; Jimmie "Snap" Hunter Named CBA Player of the Week

GARY, Indiana (December 6, 2005) "" In a matchup of two teams tied for the best record in the CBA, the Gary Steelheads host the Yakama Sun Kings at the Genesis Center Tuesday night. Both teams have a 5-3 record, with the Steelheads leading the CBA's Eastern Conference with a quarter point average of 4.1. Yakama is in third place in the Western Conference, with a quarter point average of 3.8.
The Steelheads jumped back into first place in the East with an exciting, 137-127 overtime win against the Dakota Wizards Saturday night. Jimmie "Snap" Hunter tossed in 39 points, including 9 of the Steelheads' 18 points in the overtime period.
On Monday, the CBA named Hunter as its "Player of the Week." In four games, Hunter averaged 29 ppg., 3.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists. His 39 points against the Wizards was one point short of his best effort of the season, a 40-point performance at Rockford. He hit a season-high 15 field goals (in 24 attempts) against Dakota.
The Steelheads had to overcome a tremendous rebounding deficit against the Wizards, who dominated the boards, 73-39. Gary reduced the loss of possessions by forcing 25 Wizards turnovers, while committing just 7 of their own.
