Alabama Steeldogs News Release

Birmingham, Ala. - The Alabama Steeldogs are back to work this week preparing to host South Georgia in their home opener this Thursday, after enjoying a bye in Week 2 of the af2 season. For Steeldogs head coach Ron Selesky, last week's bye could not have come at a better time.

"The bye week definitely helped us re-group, re-focus, and re-commit," Selesky said.

The Steeldogs will have to recover from a difficult Week 1 loss to the Tennessee Valley Vipers in which the team could only muster two passing touchdowns and turned the ball over three times.

Selesky said he was disappointed with his offense given the way it performed against South Georgia when the two teams scrimmaged last month.

"Overall the offensive performance was sub-par, to say the least," he said.

The Steeldogs' matchup against the Wildcats proves to be a pivotal game in more ways than one. A win against the Wildcats would go a long way to helping the team recoup from the mishaps of Week 1, while a loss to South Georgia would drop Alabama to 0-2 in the Southern Division.

Selesky says that he isn't worried about divisional standings this early in the season, however, as he tries to focus the Steeldogs on simply winning football games.

"All we can do is play the schedule that was given us," he said. "So it's really not a matter or division, conference, etc., at this point - it's about winning, plain and simple."

The Steeldogs kick off against South Georgia at 7 p.m. this Thursday at the BJCC Arena. Tickets are available by calling Ticketmaster at 715-6000 or by logging on to steeldogs.com.

The game can also be heard live on the Alabama Steeldogs Flagship station WSPZ 690 "The Animal" with veteran broadcasters Matt Coulter and Roger Shultz calling the action.
