Alabama Steeldogs News Release
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Steeldogs have announced the assignment of former UAB wide receiver Bradly Chavez, former Middle Tennessee State linebacker Alvin Fite and former Marshall defensive back Roberto Terrell to the 2006 training camp roster.
Chavez, 6-2, 205 lbs, transferred to UAB in 2002, where he made an immediate impact, catching five passes for 121 yards, an average of 24.2 yards per reception. A former high school quarterback, Chavez also completed 1 of 1 pass attempts for 30 yards.
He caught 22 passes for 356 yards and a touchdown in 2003 and 24 passes for 497 yards and two touchdowns in 2004. He also completed 1 of 1 pass attempts for 23 yards and a touchdown in 2004.
"He's good," Steeldogs Head Coach Ron Selesky said. "Bradly has a chance to be a great Arena Football player.
"He has a great combination of size and speed that makes him a great WR/LB prospect."
Fite, 6-0, 235 lbs, played in all four of his seasons at MTSU, starting every game during his senior year in 2004. He accumulated 76 solo tackles and 46 assisted tackles, two sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss. He also recovered two fumbles.
"Alvin was highly recommended by [Nashville Kats Head Coach] Pat Sperduto," Selesky said. "The things that impressed me about him when I saw his film were that he finished every play and he was always around the ball.
"His motor runs non-stop. I believe he has the ideal temperament to play the FB/LB position."
According to The (Huntington, Wv.) Herald-Dispatch, Roberto Terrell (5-9, 180 lbs) impressed NFL scouts at an April 1, 2005 NFL pro day at Marshall, running the 40-yard dash in 4.39 seconds and recording a 36 inch vertical leap. On March 18, Terrell bench-pressed 225 pounds a remarkable 17 times in yet another outstanding pro day performance. Terrell started three years for the Thundering Herd, excelling in his senior year in 2004. He recorded 57 tackles, two interceptions and seven pass breakups in his final collegiate season.
"Roberto has great feet, he can turn and cover like crazy," Selesky said. "He's had a couple of really impressive pro days, but was probably overlooked in the long-run because of his height."
The Steeldogs' seventh season kicks off against the Everett Hawks on April 8. Reserve your seats today by calling 205.458.8833. Season ticket packages start at just $72!
