Manchester Wolves News Release
The arenafootball2 league office announced today that veteran quarterback D. Bryant has been assigned to the Manchester Wolves, New England's professional football team. Bryant will enter training camp on Thursday, March 16 as one of the leading candidates for the Wolves starting quarterback position.
"D is a veteran quarterback of the arena game, and a tremendous athlete who has great improvisational skills," Wolves Head Coach Ben Bennett said. "Most importantly though, he'll be playing in a Wolves jersey and not anyone else's."
The 6-3, 210-pound signal caller comes to the Wolves already knowing about his legendary head coach Ben Bennett, as their paths have crossed more than a handful of times in the last five years.
Bryant's collegiate resume includes a three-year tenure (1999-2001) at Duke University, where in 22 career games (18 starts) with the Blue Devils, Bryant completed 316-of-642 passes for 3,902 yards with 16 touchdowns. During his 2000 season, Bryant broke coach Ben Bennett's consecutive completions-in-a-game record with 16 against N.C. State, Bennett's record 15 was set in 1983 against University of North Carolina.
Bryant was also part of Duke's 1999 basketball team that featured now NBA stars Shane Battier, Corey Maggette, and Elton Brand. The team went on to compete for the National Championship against the University of Connecticut and lost 77-74.
Most recently, Bennett has seen Bryant excel in the af2 during the last two years for East Division rival Albany Conquest, where he played a total of 29 games, throwing for 7,183 yards, 133 touchdowns, while completing 574-of-968 attempts. The Detroit, Mich. native also showed why he's considered a two-way threat as he ran for a total of 300 yards (Albany's leading rusher in 2005) and 20 touchdowns during his time with the Conquest.
In the three battles against the Wolves last season, Bryant performed admirably, as he amassed 764 yards in the air for eight touchdowns and just one interception, while completing 76-of-108 passes ( 70.3%). On the ground Bryant also proved to be a force as he racked up 39 yards and five touchdowns.
"Bryant's style of play is very similar to Michael Vick's," added Bennett. "He's going to definitely keep our opposing defense's hands full, and our fans on the edges of their seats."
