Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS- The Chicago Steel (31-14-3-1; 66 pts) scored five third period and Macklin Celebrini set a new USHL U17 scoring record in a 6-4 victory over the Madison Capitols (11-32-2-1; 25 pts) Sunday afternoon at Fox Valley Ice Arena. Celebrini scored two goals and recorded two assists and now has 71 points, breaking the USHL U17 scoring record, previously held by Taylor Cammarata with 69 (2011- 2012).

Jayden Perron and Jack Harvey each had a goal and three assists in the contest as Chicago overcame a two-goal deficit to win for the eighth time this season. Madison came out with purpose following a one-sided loss Saturday night, creating scoring chances early in the opening frame.

At the midway point of the first period, Madison's sustained pressure opened the scoring. Andrew Kuzma won a faceoff, sending the puck to the tape of Brady Yakesh at the point. Yakesh held the puck and circled, waiting for an opening, before releasing a shot to beat Steel goaltender Jack Stark blocker-side.

Shortly after, Madison was awarded a power play. It took only eight seconds into the man advantage for the Capitols to double their lead 2-0. Kuzma collected the puck along the near boards and connected with Nick Wallace at the point. Wallace waited for an opening and released a shot that was deflected by Nathan Lewis on the doorstep. The Steel's league-leading power play accounted for the only goal of the second period.

From between the dots, Jayden Perron connected with Quinn Finley on the left side who quickly found Michael Hagens at the edge of the left circle. Hagens fired a onetimer to beat Madison goaltender Rastislav Elias glove-side and cut Madison's lead in half to 2-1.

Perron's assist on the play marked his 100th career point.

Early in the third period, the Steel tied the game 2-2. Jack Harvey collected a bouncing puck in the right circle before throwing the puck on net for a pass-off-pads for Nick Moldenhauer on the doorstep. Moldenhauer stickhandled to calm the puck before lifting it for the equalizer.

Less than a minute later, the Steel got their first lead of the game. Jayden Perron collected a dropped pass at the top of the Steel defensive zone. Perron carried the puck out before connected with Macklin Celebrini across the neutral zone. Celebrini found a streaking Harvey, forcing a two-on-one. Harvey stickhandled in front of Elias before sneaking the puck past Elias' right skate.

Madison would score a pair of goals in a 48-second span to regain the lead. Jonah Aegerter tied the game after winning a battle in front of the net and lifting the puck for a game-tying goal.

Less than a minute later, Nick Wallace's shot from the point was deflected by Aegerter and initially saved by Stark but former Steel forward Jack Brandt poked the puck loose and scored for a 4-3 Madison lead.

Chicago had the last laugh, scoring the final three goals of the game.

With under eight minutes to play, the Steel power play struck again to tie the game. Celebrini carried the puck from behind the net along the boards before connecting with Hagens at the point. Hagens reconnected with Celebrini in the right circle for a onetimer that beat Elias glove-side.

With less than four minutes left in regulation, the Steel regained the lead. Jack Harvey made a short pass to Celebrini who quickly found Perron between the dots. Perron directed the puck from his skate onto his stick for a quick shot and a 5-4 lead.

With under a minute to play, Celebrini struck once again. Jack Harvey carried the puck into the Madison zone and avoided a turnover with a diving pass to Celebrini in the high slot. Celebrini skated in, faked a shot, faked right and finally shot left past Elias to cap the scoring.

Quinn Finley had a pair of assists for his fourth multi-point game in his last seven contests.

Jack Stark stopped 15 of 19 Madison shots to earn his 14th victory of the season.
