Quad City Steamwheelers News Release
(Moline, IL) - A five touchdown performance by the Green Bay Blizzard's quarterback, Ronnie Gordon, buried the Steamwheelers 57-34 in front of 3,878 on OS Field at The MARK of the Quad Cities.
The Blizzard jumped out to a 13-0 lead to start the first quarter and never looked back. Gordon, a former Steamwheeler quarterback, found wide receiver Randall Lane 4:07 into the opening to give the Blizzard a 7-0 lead.
In the second quarter the Steamwheelers traded scores with the Blizzard. Quad City got on the board for the first time when quarterback Tim Hicks found Tim Dodge running down the sideline for a 20 yard pass, cutting the lead to 13-6. After giving up 21-yard touchdown pass on the ensuing drive for the Blizzard, Quad City answered when Hicks once again found Dodge open along the boards. After catching the ball, Dodge dived into the endzone making it 19-6. Hicks, who finished the game with four touchdown passes and 244 yards on 21 completions, found Bo Smith open in the endzone with 30 seconds left in the half to cut the lead to 26-20, the closest the Steamwheelers would come the entire evening.
For the second quarter of the night Green Bay would shutout the Steamwheelers as Gordon threw his third and fourth touchdown passes in the third. Kicker, Wade Tydlacka got things started for the Blizzard in the third with a 24-yard field goal on a four play drive.
In the fourth quarter with the Steamwheelers down 57-27, backup quarterback Matt Pike came in and threw a 14-yard touchdown pass with 41 seconds remaining to avoid the worst home loss in Steamwheelers history.
Jack Walker Jr. led the Steamwheelers with 122 yards on nine catches. Defensively, Troy Graham and Sidney Lewis, who went out in the second quarter with an injury and later returned, both finished with 4.5 tackles.
Covell Crosby, led Green bay with six tackles, while Lane finished the game with 69 yards on five receptions.
