Steamwheelers Dance Team Tryouts January 10-12

Quad City Steamwheelers News Release
(Davenport, IA) - The Quad City Steamwheelers will host tryouts for the Deck Mates dance team January 10-12, 2007. Interested dancers 18 years of age and older are encouraged to tryout for the exclusive squad. Dancers can register in advance by stopping by the Quad City Steamwheelers office (5403 Victoria Ave., Suite 110, Davenport), by visiting Campustown stores located in Northpark and Southpark malls or they may register on the first night of tryouts.
The preliminary rounds will be held January 10 and 11 at Expressions of the Quad Cities Dance Academy, 2714 Central Avenue, Bettendorf. The finals will be held on Friday, January 12, at the Holiday Inn in Moline, located at 6902 27th Street (near the Quad City airport). The cost to tryout is $20.00 and includes a 2007 Deck Mates Tryout T-shirt. The preliminary rounds are not open to the public.
The Preliminary Rounds
Dancers should arrive at Expressions of the Quad Cities Dance Academy on Wednesday, January 10, no later then 6:30 p.m. to register and warm up. Tryouts will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday's tryout will consist of an initial evaluation as the potential Deck Mates learn a routine to perform for the finals. The tryout is expected to last approximately two to three hours.
The second round of tryouts, to be held on January 11, will consist of a quick rehearsal and individual interviews. An initial cut will be made after this round.
Dancers should wear black dance pants, a midriff exercise shirt and appropriate dance shoes for all rounds of the tryout.
The Finals
The final round will be held at the Holiday Inn located near the Quad City airport in Moline. In the final round the Deck Mates finalists will perform a routine in front of celebrity judges and the general public. At the conclusion of the event the dancers who made the 2007 Deck Mates squad will be announced. Steamwheelers fans are encouraged to attend the finals. Tickets are $8 and include a free Deck Mates tryout t-shirt and hors d'oeuvres.
About the Deck Mates Dancers
The Deck Mates dancers are a high energy dance team that performs at Steamwheelers home games and throughout the community. The Deck Mates will consist of 18 dancers in 2007 and will make appearances throughout the Quad City and surrounding area starting in the middle of January and continuing into September.
The Deck Mates dancers earn a salary of $1,000 for the season which includes appearances and dancing at games. In addition to the salary, members of the Deck Mates dance team receive a professional photo portfolio, health club membership, tanning membership, complementary hair & nail care and are included on the Steamwheelers training table program.
At the end of the year two dancers will be selected by the Steamwheelers' and the Deck Mates' coach for an all expenses paid trip to Florida to audition for a cast position at a Disney resort. The dancers will be selected based on ability, performance and dedication to the Steamwheelers and the Quad Cities community.
