Steamwheelers Add Players

Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

With Defensive Specialists dropping like flies, head coach Rich Ingold and the Quad City Steamwheelers were assigned two DSÂ’s on Tuesday. These additions will take the place of Eric Thigpen (long-term injured reserve) and Lee Wiggins (short-term injured reserve).

The additions include former Peoria Pirates DS Sidney Lewis, who was cut from the team this past Monday by the Pirates, prompting Ingold to put in a claim for Lewis. Lewis was assigned to the team Tuesday by the af2. Lewis is a 5'10, 185 graduate of Grand Valley State.

Sidney was a standout transfer from the University of Wyoming and while at GVSU he had two interceptions for 16 yards last season and tallied 40 total tackles and one sack.

Leo FenceRoy joins the team from Sioux Falls University. He is a 5’9, 185 DS that will look to make an instant impact for the ‘Wheelers. FenceRoy was also assigned to the team on Tuesday.

The Steamwheelers lost Eric Thigpen in the second game of the season, when Thigpen tore his ‘Achilles against the Tennessee Valley Vipers and is out for the season. Wiggins pulled his hamstring last week against the Bakersfield Blitz and is out for at least two weeks.

The Steamwheelers (2-2) will host LewisÂ’ former team, the Peoria Pirates (1-3), Friday, May 2nd at The MARK of the Quad Cities, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Good tickets are still available at The MARK box office all the way up until kickoff or at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling TickerMaster at 324-1111.
