Quad City Steamwheelers News Release

A Friendship/Rivalry Renewed: The Quad City Steamwheelers and the Green Bay Blizzard have started to form a little bit of a rivalry as they split their two regular season games last year, with both teams winning on their home field. Both games came down to the final seconds. In addition they have met in a preseason game the past two seasons and have split those games as well. The two head coaches know each other well as they coached together for a couple years and became good friends. Steamwheeler coach Rick Frazier hired the Blizzard coach, Rich Landsee, when Frazier was the headman in Milwaukee.

A Great First Game: If quarterback Tim Hicks continues to have the type of game he had on March 31, he could break a lot of Quad City records this season. In the season opener against Arkansas, Hicks finished second in single-game completions by delivering 30 passes. Sam Clemons is the all-time leader with 35, a feat he accomplished twice last season. Hicks also moved into third in pass attempts (44) and in yards passing (365). Hicks', seven touchdown passes is the 15th time a Steamwheelers quarterback has thrown that many in a game. Nine touchdown passes thrown in a game is the record held by Jay McDonagh and eight touchdown passes have been thrown six times with the last coming from former Steamwheeler (now Blizzard) quarterback Ronnie Gordon.

Looking for Revenge While the game didn't count, expect the Green Bay Blizzard to be looking to avenge their Happy Joe's Preseason Pizza Bowl 40-20 loss at the hands of the Steamwheelers on Thursday, March 23.

Following a Bye Week: The week following a bye week has proven tough for Quad City Steamwheelers as they have gone 4-4 in games after a bye. Last year, Quad City went 1-1 in games after a bye week. They had a bye during the first week of the season and than lost in the second week to Wilkes-Barre Scranton 64-28 for their season opener. They also faced Green Bay in the week following a bye and defeated them 40-37 when the Blizzard missed a field goal with no time remaining in the game.

A Great Month: The Steamwheelers are entering one of the months that have historically treated them well. Quad City is 18-4 in the month of April. The only month that has historically treated the Steamwheelers better is July where they have gone 20-4.

Upcoming Promotions: April 15 vs. Green Bay Blizzard is Schedule Magnet and Team Poster night the first 2,500 fans entering The MARK of the Quad Cities. Also, before the game, weather permitting, the QC Ignitors will be hosting a car show outside The MARK for Steamwheeler fans. On April 22 vs. the Stockton Lightning the Steamwheelers will be hosting FCA with a special guest speaker sharing his faith with members of the FCA and local area churches. For group ticket information contact the Steamwheelers office at (563) 324-4888.
