St. Louis Steamers News Release

Reiniger Reaches 600 Plateau: Joe Reiniger finally scored his 600th goal of his professional indoor career on Saturday night against the Milwaukee Wave. After being stuck on 599 since Mar. 3rd and seven games passing by without a goal, Reiniger took a pass from defender Genoni Martinez and blasted a left-footer into the net for the historic goal on the power play. Reiniger has played much of his career with the Steamers and spent four seasons in Milwaukee, so he was pleased to not only to score it in front of his home fans, but also to score with some friends on the other side who offered their congratulations.

Home Sweet Home: Although the Steamers suffered their first home loss on the season last week, a 4-3 final to the Philadelphia KiXX, St. Louis still enjoys the best home record in the MISL at 13-1. They will close out the regular season and home schedule against the Chicago Storm Saturday night at Savvis. In addition, with the best record in the MISL, the Steamers will have a home field advantage throughout the playoffs, ensuring that someone will have to beat the Steamers in Savvis, the toughest house in the league.

Steamers in the Playoffs: The Steamers now know who they will face in the opening round of the Major Indoor Soccer League Championship Series. With their overtime win over the Baltimore Blast Sunday, the Chicago Storm clinched the fourth and final berth into the post-season. By clinching the fourth seed, the Storm will have the task of trying to knock off the regular season champ Steamers in the semi-finals. Last season, St. Louis was eliminated in the semi-final round by the eventual champions, the Milwaukee Wave, in two games. Game one will take place at Chicago UIC Pavilion on April 15th at 6:00 pm. Game two will take place at Savvis Center beginning at 7:05 pm.

The Week Ahead: After a hectic schedule last week, the Steamers will enjoy a bit of a relaxer this time around. The Steamers have only one game on their schedule, a 7:05 pm start against the Chicago Storm at Savvis to close out the regular season. After that, St. Louis will prepare to take on the Storm once again, only this time in the MISL Championship Series. The game on Saturday holds no significance in the standings because of the Steamers clinching the number one seed and the Storm holding the number four seed. Both teams will want to win, however, to bring some momentum into the semi-finals.
