St. Louis Steamers News Release

Steamers Widen Gap Despite Idle Weekend: The Steamers, although playing no games this past weekend, gained even more ground when the Milwaukee Wave were defeated by the Philadelphia KiXX, 7-6 in overtime. The KiXX had lost 9 consecutive games before Saturday night at the Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia. The Milwaukee loss places them into a tie for second place at 2 ½ games behind St. Louis. The Baltimore Blast won their game over the California Cougars, 5-3, in Stockton, CA tying them up with the Wave in the MISL standings.

Martinez Stays on a Roll and Gathers More Hardware: Steamers Defender Genoni Martinez has arguably been the hottest player in the MISL lately. His 4 goals and an assist in the 8-6 victory over the Philadelphia KiXX Saturday night earned him the MISL Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. He was also named the MISL Defensive Player of the Month for January. His performance Saturday night (Feb. 18th) included 2 power play goals and the game-winning goal. He kept on rolling in the 9-7 win over the Baltimore Blast Monday (Feb. 20th) afternoon by scoring 2 more goals and adding another assist to go along with a block as well.

Shaun David Returns to Form: At the beginning of the 2005-06 season, Shaun David was enjoying a good start to the season which earned him a birth in the MISL All-Star game. But when the calendar turned to 2006, David hit a scoring drought. Starting Jan 7th, David didn't score a goal for 8 consecutive games and only recorded 4 assists during that stretch. Since then, he scored 1 against Milwaukee (Feb 12th), 2 at Philadelphia (Feb. 18th) and a hat trick versus Baltimore (Feb. 20th). Plus he added a goal in the All-Star game Feb. 11th. The All-Star goal was assisted by Steamer teammate and goalkeeper Brett Phillips.

Reiniger is Closing in on Milestone: The 600 goal mark keeps eluding Joe Reiniger. The Collinsville, IL native is nearing in on 600 career professional indoor soccer goals for a career. He is currently at 598 indoor goals. Being from the St. Louis area, he would like to be able to do it at home. His teammates continue to try and set him up to reach this feat but he's just coming up short. He had 4 shots in the game Saturday night in Philadelphia and added another 3 in the win over Baltimore. His next chance will have to wait until March 3rd when the Steamers travel to California to take on the Cougars in Stockton Arena.

The Week Ahead: The Steamers return to the filed on Friday night when they travel to Stockton, CA to take on the expansion California Cougars at 9:30 p.m. It will be the final meeting between the two teams this season. So far, the Steamers are a perfect 5-0 against the Cougars. It will be the first time the Steamers will have played a game since the 9-7 win over the Baltimore Blast on Feb. 20th, a span of almost two weeks.
