St. Louis Steamers News Release

Brett Phillips Earns Fourth Award after Shutting Down Chicago:

This afternoon, Brett Phillips was named the MISL Goalkeeper of the Week for the fourth time this season. The All-Star was given the award after shutting out the Chicago Storm, 4-0. Phillips stopped all eight shots he faced in the game and it was the first shut out in the MISL this season. It was also the first time the Chicago Storm franchise was ever shut out. Back up keeper Bayard Elfvin was also a part of the win as he played 2:14 and earned a save while Phillips sat in the penalty box after receiving a blue card for tripping. Steamers owner Michael Hetelson gave Phillips a game ball following the win. Phillips is 11-3 on the season and leads all MISL goalkeepers with his four Goalkeeper of the Week Awards.

Steamers Back on Top of the Standings:

The Steamers got a little help from the Baltimore Blast Saturday night when they defeated the Milwaukee Wave 6-5. Following that game, the Steamers closed out their win over the Chicago Storm 4-0, giving the Steamers and Milwaukee identical records. St. Louis owns the tie breaker between the two teams making them the actual MISL leaders. The two teams square off against each other this Sunday afternoon at Savvis Center, the day after the MISL All-Star game in Milwaukee. The winner will be alone atop the MISL standings.

Reiniger is Closing in on Milestone:

Don't be surprised if Joe Reiniger ends up picking up a ball out of the net and running it over to the bench soon. The Collinsville, IL native is nearing in on 600 career professional indoor soccer goals for a career. He is currently at 598 indoor goals. Being from the St. Louis area, he would like to be able to do it at home. After being on the IR with an injured knee, Reiniger returned to action Jan. 24th in the 12-3 win over Baltimore. He scored two goals in his return game and then scored on Saturday (Jan. 28th) and again on Sunday night (Jan. 29th) giving him four goals since his return. The Steamers next game is in Savvis Center (Feb. 12th) giving Reiniger an ample chance to reach the milestone with his family in attendance.

The Week Ahead:

The schedule may appear light with only one game on it, but the Steamers' Jamar Beasley, Shaun David, Brett Phillips and Head Coach Omid Namazi will have a hectic weekend. The MISL All-Star game will be held Saturday night in Milwaukee. Following the participation in that game, the four will have to rush back in town to take on the Milwaukee Wave in Savvis Center at 2:35 pm. The winner will have sole possession of first place in the MISL standings. As of now, the two teams have identical records of 13-4.
