
Steamers Stop Storm With 6-4 Victory

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Steamers defeated the Chicago Storm 6-4 on Friday night at Savvis Center. The win improves the Steamers record to 17-15 and they push two games ahead of Chicago for the fourth and final playoff spot in the MISL standings. The victory also puts the Steamers a half game back of the third place Cleveland Force.
The Storm opened the scoring in the first quarter when Matthew Stewart scored on an assist from Mark Ughy. Jeff DiMaria tied the game with just over a minute to go in the quarter while Daryl Doran notched an assist. Chicago stormed back when Ughy registered his second point of the game when he put a shot past Steamers goalkeeper Brett Phillips. St. Louis tied the scored before the half ended when Joe Reiniger fed Mariano Bollella who would beat Storm goalkeeper Danny Waltman.
The Steamers scored 21 seconds into the half when Reiniger scored on a shootout attempt against goalkeeper Jeff Richey when Waltman was sent off for tripping Shaun David on a breakaway. The quarter went back-and-forth as Jorge Valle tied the score at 3-3 at 8:51. Carlos Farias, appearing in his first home game for the Steamers scored from the side boards on a re-start attempt. Awadalla Morad scored for Chicago just forty seconds later to tie the game at 4-4 with Ted Chronopoulos recording the assist. With 37 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Doran fed defender Jeff Davis at the point and he drove a shot over Waltman in the upper part of the net and St. Louis took a 5-4 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Steamers capped off the victory when Waltman gave a clearing attempt away to Marco Lopez who shoot past the goalkeeper and St. Louis would win the game 6-4. The Steamers will be home on Saturday night to take on the Kansas City Comets at 7 p.m.
