Chicago Storm News Release

Chicago (Friday, March 25, 2005) – The Chicago Storm of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that forward Byron Alvarez has been recalled to the Portland Timbers, thus ending his loan to the Storm. Alvarez ends his rookie indoor soccer season playing in 29 games (15 starts), scoring 21 goals and six assists for 27 points.

"Byron will be missed, but Portland was very cooperative in trying to find a way for him to stay longer," said Storm Head Coach Frank Klopas. "Byron did a lot for the Storm in his first season and we will look to bring him back in the future. His professionalism, team attitude and play on the field contributed a lot to the team's success."

Alvarez returns to the Timbers as the team prepares for the upcoming United Soccer Leagues (USL) Division 1 season. In 2004, the Mexico City native finished with 16 goals and four assists for 36 points, ranking second in the league. The former MetroStars forward joined the Timbers prior to the 2003 season and proceeded to score 12 goals, placing him in fourth overall in the league.

"Unfortunately due to the overlapping schedule between our two leagues, we were really left with no other option but to recall Byron Alvarez," Timbers General Manager Jim Taylor said. "I appreciate the difficult position that puts everyone in, especially Nick (Di Benedetto) and Frank (Klopas) in Chicago. I want to thank both of them for their understanding and utmost professionalism in working with the Timbers to resolve the matter. I wish them and the Storm all the best for the future."

The Storm is preparing for tonight's match-up with the St. Louis Steamers at 7:30 p.m. CT at the Savvis Center in St. Louis. The game will be heard live on www.chicagostorm.net.
