St. Louis Steamers News Release

ST. LOUIS - The Major Indoor Soccer League held their 2006 College Draft today and the Steamers announced the selection of five players, which included first selection Terry Alvino, a senior at Dayton University and a graduate of CBC High School in St. Louis. The team also acquired the rights to Jordan Holder, Marcus Gross, Justin Sadler and Jimmy Klatter.

Participation of the draft included all six active teams as well as the expansion Detroit franchise. Order of the draft was determined on the team's won-loss record from their last completed regular season. The draft consisted of one Territorial Round followed by four standard Numerical Rounds. In the Territorial Round, teams selected a player who was either born or attended college in the team's home state. Detroit, who is scheduled to debut in the upcoming 2006-07 season, selected first in each round, with this season's expansion franchise, the California Cougars, selecting second. Next was the Baltimore Blast, followed by the Chicago Storm, the Steamers, Philadelphia KiXX and ending with the Milwaukee Wave.

Midfielder Terry Alvino played only one season as a Dayton Flyer but was named Second Team All-Atlantic 10 after posting six goals and two assists. Alvino scored three game-winning goals as a senior and also earned a spot on the Dayton Marriott Flyer Classic All-Classic Team. Following the Classic, he was also announced as the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week. While attending CBC High School, Alvino was twice named as Team Captain and was also a two-time Team MVP.

The Steamers then went on to draft forward Jordan Holder out of Central Connecticut State University in the second round followed by defender Marcus Gross (University of Maryland - Baltimore County) and midfielder Justin Sadler (University of Akron) in the third round. The Steamers closed out their draft by selecting forward Jimmy Klatter (Eastern Illinois University) in the fourth and final round.

"We drafted two forwards, two defenders and a midfielder which addressed every position aside from the goalkeeper," Steamers Head Coach Omid Namazi stated. "Terry is a local kid who could help in the middle with his work ethic and strong shot. He's one who could have an impact immediately and will train with the team this week."

Namazi went on to add, "We strengthened every position by getting a tough defender with good size in Gross and we feel we got a bit of an unknown in Holder from CCSU. He's a quick guy who can set up his teammates and has a good sense of the field."

The Steamers remain in first place this season with a 16-5 record and have clinched a berth in the MISL Championship Series. They return home to take on the Philadelphia KiXX Saturday afternoon at Savvis Center with a 1:05 p.m. starting time.
