Steamers Look for Continued Success This Weekend

January 26, 2006 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
St. Louis Steamers News Release

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Steamers (11-3), now tied with the Milwaukee Wave for first place in the Major Indoor Soccer League, will take on third place Baltimore Blast (8-5) in Baltimore Saturday night at 6:35 pm in 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore. The Steamers beat the Blast 12-3 Tuesday night at Savvis and now lead head-to-head competition 2-1. This will be the first time the Steamers return to 1st Mariner Arena following a 12-5 loss suffered in the first game of the season way back on November 19th.

Saturday night's game will also include the return of head coach Omid Namazi, whose four game suspension ended Tuesday. Namazi was suspended for what the MISL deemed "improper physical contact with an official" after receiving a red card late in St. Louis' 7-6 overtime win in Philadelphia on January 7. League policy states that following a red card, Namazi had to sit out the following game, a 6-4 loss in Chicago to the Storm the next night. He was later given a the suspension. Since then, the Steamers have gone 3-0 in his absence. The first two wins came with forward Joe Reiniger acting as coach. Tuesday night's win came under the helm of Assistant Coach Emil Dragicevic.

The next night, the Steamers will be at home in Savvis Center Sunday at 8:05 pm against the expansion California Cougars (1-13). The Steamers traveled to California on January 21, where they had a come-from-behind victory against the Cougars. St. Louis tied the game 4-4 at the end of the third quarter thanks to a goal by Sandre "Sunny" Naumoski. Mali Walton, Elvir Kafedzic, and Randy Soderman all scored in the fourth quarter to secure the win. It was Soderman's second of the game. The Steamers are 4-0 versus the Cougars this season including 2-0 in Savvis Center, where the Steamers are 6-0 overall.
