
Steamers fall to Milwaukee 7-2

ST. LOUIS, April 16, 2005 - The Milwaukee Wave traveled to Savvis Center on Saturday afternoon and defeated the Steamers by the score of 7-2. The loss drops St. Louis to 19-19 on the season and the Wave improve to 23-13. The Steamers are one and half games ahead of Chicago for the fourth and final playoff spot in the MISL standings. St. Louis' magic number remains at one game to clinch a playoff berth.
Greg Howes scored the games first goal at 57 seconds into the first quarter on an assist from Giuliano Oliviero. The half would only see one more goal as the Steamers tied the game at 1-1 when Carlos Farias fed Mariano Bollella who beat Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg at 14:08 of the second quarter.
Milwaukee exploded in the second half with five unanswered goals. Oliviero scored a powerplay goal at 2:20 of the third quarter to give the Wave a 2-1 lead when he beat Steamers goalkeeper Riley Swift who was appearing in his first game of the season. Pat White followed up eight minutes later for Milwaukee to increase their lead to two. Angel Rivillo scored all three of the Wave's next three goals to collect his first career hat-trick. St. Louis scored at the 12:35 mark of the fourth quarter when Cal Thomas notched his third goal of the season. Milwaukee capped off the scoring when Howes registered his second goal of the game and fourth point (2g, 2a) on an assist from Rivillo, also his fourth point (3g, 1a).
St. Louis will conclude the season the next weekend when they travel to Kansas City on April 22 to take on the Comets at 7:35 p.m. then return to Savvis Center in the final regular season game on April 23 to battle the Chicago Storm at 7 p.m. Both games can be heard live on KFNS-590.
