Steamers Defeat Wave, 6-5

ST. LOUIS, March 3, 2005 - The St. Louis Steamers defeated the Milwaukee Wave 6-5 in the annual school day game on Thursday afternoon at Savvis Center. The win improves the Steamers record to 16-13 while the Wave fall to 17-11 on the season.

Michael King scored the games first goal for Milwaukee at 3:10 of the opening quarter. St. Louis responded 10 minutes later when Matt Caution scored on a pass from Mali Walton. Greg Howes took the lead again for Milwaukee at 13:58 of the first quarter on a re-start powerplay goal while Ricardinho notched the assist. Mariano Bollella tied the game in the second quarter when Joe Reiniger fed him on a re-start. Daryl Doran gave the Steamers the lead when he scored on a rebound from Addae Rique's diving headball off the glass. Reiniger increased the lead when he beat Wave goalkeeper Nick Vorberg on a shootout attempt. Reiniger would add another goal before the half on the powerplay and the Steamers took a 5-2 into halftime.

The Wave came back with two goals by Chris Morman and Giuliano Oliviero in the third quarter to cut the lead to 5-4. Walton would push the Steamers lead to two goals when he scored at 2:57 of the fourth quarter which would prove to be the game-winner. Milwaukee scored a sixth-attacker goal with 1:29 remaining in the contest but the Steamers would win 6-5.

The win puts the Steamers two games out of first place and a half game back of Philadelphia for second place in the MISL standings. St. Louis' next game will be on March 19 when they travel to Kansas City to take on the Comets at 7:35 p.m.
