St. Louis Steamers News Release

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Steamers (23-7) ended their regular season on a strong note with an 8-3 victory over the Chicago Storm (12-17) in front of 9,487 fans at Savvis Center. This match served as a preview of the first round of the MISL playoffs when these same teams meet again over the next two weekends in a best of two series with a "Golden Goal" session if necessary. Jeff DiMaria and Carlos Farias provided the offensive muscle for the Steamers netting two goals apiece.

Jeff DiMaria put the Steamers on the board first 10:17 into the first quarter. The Storm responded with a goal of their own from Jorge Valle 7:42 into the second quarter. That was the closest Chicago would get all night as the Steamers proceeded to dominate the rest of the game. Joe Reiniger and Carlos Farias each blasted shots by Storm netminder Danny Waltman to give the Steamers a 3-1 lead at halftime.

The Steamers came out strong in the third quarter with goals from DiMaria and Farias to give them a 5-1 lead. This was all the offense the Steamers needed on the evening. Mike Apple, Sterling Wescott and Mariano Bollella each added a goal in the fourth quarter as the Steamers finish the regular season with a 5-1 record versus the Storm. Steamers all-star goalkeeper Brett Phillips proved himself ready for the postseason by stopping ten of thirteen Chicago shots.

The Steamers now prepare to face the Storm in their MISL semifinal series. The two-game series will open in Chicago on Saturday, April 15 at 6:00 p.m. The two teams will then return to St. Louis and Savvis Center for a 7:05 p.m. affair on Saturday, April 22. If the series is tied after the second game, the two teams will play a sudden death "Golden Goal" immediately following the game to decide the outcome of the series.
