Steamers Clinch Playoff Spot

March 3, 2006 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
St. Louis Steamers News Release

Stockton, CA - Before the open kick in their match against the California Cougars Friday night at the Stockton Arena, the Steamers learned they had clinched a berth in the MISL Championship Series. Earlier in the evening, the Baltimore Blast handed the Philadelphia Kixx a 5-2 defeat in Baltimore, ensuring that Philadelphia could not catch St. Louis in the standings, thus locking a playoff spot for the Steamers.

The Series will consist of 4 teams competing in a tournament style setting. The Steamers made the post-season last spring but were defeated by the eventual champions, Milwaukee Wave, in a 2 game sweep in the semi-final round.

The major difference in this season's playoff team will be the presence of Head Coach Omid Namazi. Namazi coached the Cleveland Force to the championship series last season, only to be defeated by Milwaukee in the finals. Namazi has propelled the Steamers to the best record in the MISL so far this season and give St. Louis a good chance to secure home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Championship Series runs between April 14 and May 7.
