
Steamers Beat Storm To Complete Weekend Sweep

The Steamers won their second of back-to-back road games when they defeated the Chicago Storm 4-2 at UIC Pavilion Sunday afternoon. The victory improved the Steamers' record to 19-5, while Chicago dropped to 9-15. St. Louis also won on the road Saturday with a 7-3 victory over the Kixx in Philadelphia.
The first place Steamers finish the weekend with a 2½ game lead over the second place Milwaukee Wave and a 4½ game lead over the third place Baltimore Blast. St. Louis, Milwaukee and Baltimore have clinched the first three of four MISL playoff spots. Chicago, California and Philadelphia are competing for the final spot with only three games separating those three clubs in the standings.
The Steamers scored first on a Mariano Bollella goal at 14:27, assisted by Justin McMillian. It was the lone score of the period and the first quarter ended with St. Louis on top, 1-0.
The second stanza went scoreless until the last minute when Jeff DiMaria found the back of the net off an assist from Randy Soderman at 14:03, giving the Steamers a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Carlos "Chile" Farias put the Steamers up by three (3-0) when he scored off a pass from Sterling Wescott at 5:42 of the third quarter. Chicago shrunk their deficit by one when Semir Mesanovic put a shot past St. Louis goalkeeper Bayard Elfvin at 9:35 of the third quarter, which expired with St. Louis leading 3-1.
