Steamers agree to terms with two All-Stars selected in dispersal draft

ST. LOUIS, January 20, 2005 – St. Louis Steamers President and CEO Michael Hetelson, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with midfielder Mariano Bollella and forward Marco "Chikis" Lopez.

Bollella, 33, was selected by St. Louis in the first round, third overall in the MISL Dispersal Draft and is expected to be in the Steamers lineup this weekend. The 5-6, 155-pound midfielder played in seven games with San Diego this season, recording six points (five goals, one assist) along with 22 shots and seven fouls. His love of soccer began at a very young age. Bollella was a member of Argentina's Junior National Team. His professional indoor career began in 1996 as a member of the Indiana Twisters in the NPSL. The Buenos Aires, Argentina native notched 62 points for the Sockers in the 2002-03 season. Bollella was named 2000 WISL most valuable player after helping the Monterrey LaRaza win the WISL championship with 27 goals and 22 assists. He also led the WISL in hat tricks (four) and game-winning goals (seven). Bollella will wear uniform number 33.

Lopez, 33, was selected by St. Louis in the third round, 17th overall in the MISL Dispersal Draft and is expected to be in the Steamers lineup in mid-February. He tallied 12 points (seven goals, five assists) in six games for Monterrey this season. The 5-3, 146-pound forward is speedy and was a member of the 2003-04 MISL All-Star Team. He was a leading member of the Monterrey Fury offense in 2003-04, ranking second on the club in goals (29), first in assists (32) and second in points (61), placing him fifth overall in the league. This season as a member of the Tigres, Lopez had a four-goal game on November 19 and has tallied seven goals and five assists in six games played overall. As a member of the Monterrey LaRaza, he was a key component to their back-to-back CISL championships in 1995 and 1996 and their WISL crown in 2000. The Mexico City, Mexico native is a prolific scorer with 12 years' indoor experience playing for four teams in three different leagues. Lopez will wear uniform number 34.
