Stealth Unable to Stop the Rush

Vancouver, BC - The Vancouver Stealth (4-9) knew it was going to be a tough back-to-back matchup against the West Division leading Edmonton Rush (9-4). A day after losing in overtime in Edmonton, the Stealth fell 17-10 to the Rush on Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre.
Just like Friday night, Logan Schuss and Corey Small led the way for Vancouver, both with five points. Robert Church scored a game-high nine points for Edmonton while Mark Matthews and Zack Greer each had seven points.
"We made quite a few mistakes," said Stealth Head Coach Dan Perreault. "We gave up three goals in the first half because of no clock awareness. We have to be aware of the clock; those goals will kill you."
"It was a fast start," said Schuss. "We got into a bit of a lull, fell back a couple goals and could never get over that hump. Edmonton's a great team and when you get down to them, it's tough to come back."
Things started off well for Vancouver, as they opened up the scoring when Small fired one past Aaron Bold at 3:49 into the game. The Rush led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter as Church scored with one second left to break the 2-2 tie. Edmonton took control of the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Stealth 5-2 to go into halftime with an 8-4 lead.
Vancouver opened the scoring in the second half as Tyler Digby scored 58 seconds in but the Rush didn't let the Stealth get any momentum, answering every time Vancouver would score. Credit the Edmonton defense, the Stealth were unable to score consecutive goals for the first time this season.
After an impressive start on Friday night, rookie Eric Penney started his second straight game in net. Penney stopped 50 shots as the Rush put up a season-high 68 shots on the Vancouver netminder.
"Yesterday we had more intensity," said Penney. "Things were clicking, we got on some good runs. Tonight when we got on those runs they would answer back and we didn't get those stops."
"Penney played a solid game last night and tonight," added Perreault. "He made the first save and we didn't box out and they (Edmonton) got second and third chances."
Vancouver is still hanging on to the third and final playoff spot in the West Division, one-half game up on the Calgary Roughnecks with five games to play in the regular season. The Stealth have another busy weekend as they head east to take on the Toronto Rock on Friday night at 4:30PM at the Air Canada Centre followed by a stop in Uncasville, Connecticut for their lone matchup against the New England Black Wolves at 10:00AM inside the Mohegan Sun Casino. The Stealth return home on Saturday, April 18 when the three-time defending champion, Rochester Knighthawks roll into town.
