Wichita, Kan. - The Wichita Stealth announced today that they have been assigned fullback/linebacker Jose Salcido (6-2, 250, Fort Hays State) by the arenafootball2 league office. Salcido was a member of the inaugural Stealth team in 2001, and played for Stealth head coach Bob Cortese for three seasons at Fort Hays State University (1993-95) and played one year at Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College in 1992 under former Stealth coach Land Jacobsen.
Salcido played in eight games during the 2001 season in Wichita. During those eight games, he compiled 17 rushes for 43 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, he added seven tackles and three sacks. Jose's best game in a Stealth uniform came on July 21, 2001 versus the Lincoln Lightning. He rushed two times for 20 yards and one touchdown on offense and defensively he compiled 3 tackles (2 unassisted) and had one sack.
During his college career, Salcido amassed 342 tackles (235 unassisted tackles, 107 assisted tackles), seven sacks, 35 tackles for loss, and 11 interceptions. He was named All-West Region first team linebacker in 1995, three-time All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference first team linebacker from 1993 to 1995 and was named Division II All-America by two publications. "Jose is a great athlete with great range," said Stealth head coach Bob Cortese. "Due to his play at Fort Hays State, we won a lot of football games and he will make a very good arena football player."
