Norfolk Nighthawks News Release

NORFOLK, Dec. 4, 2002 -- The Norfolk Nighthawks announced today that the team signed their first player to the training camp roster for the upcoming 2003 af2 season. Chris Stahl, who terrorized the Atlantic 10 Conference as a member of William and Mary's Tribe and a Maury High graduate, will serve the Nighthawks as a Fullback/Linebacker (FB/LB) and he'll also spend some time as a pass rusher.

"I am very excited to have Chris Stahl joining the Norfolk Nighthawk football family," said the Nighthawks new Head Coach Rick Frazier.

"With Chris's unique blend of speed and strength, he will play not only as a speed edge rusher, but also as the tough to fill, but critical FB/LB position," said Frazier.

"Chris is the kind of player who can help us bring the ArenaCup to Norfolk for the first time," said Frazier.

The Norfolk native transferred from East Carolina University to William and Mary in 1997, where he spent his first season with the Tribe learning the system off the field. In 1998, Stahl started all 11 games and recorded an impressive 58 tackles (24 solo) and six sacks.

In his campaign with the Tribe in 1999, Stahl racked up 94 tackles (62 solo) and four sacks. In 2000, the numbers were just as impressive, as Stahl managed 74 tackles (42 solo) and 6 sacks.

But 2001 proved a milestone year for Stahl. He recorded 84 tackles (47 solo), 2.5 sacks and one interception. This all-around action led the Atlantic 10 conference to name him to the All-Atlantic 10 second team defensive squad, an honor that he held in 1999 and 2000 as well.

"We are very excited about the signing of Chris Stahl," said Assistant Coach Ron Hill.

"We feel that Stahl can be an impact player in this league," said Hill. "He is the caliber of player you need to ensure your chances of winning the ArenaCup championship."
