Washington Stealth News Release
Everett, Wash. - The Washington Stealth has announced today that the team has partnered with Providence Medical Center for the team's annual Pink in the Rink event to benefit breast cancer prevention and treatment. This year's fundraiser, entitled "Stick It to Breast Cancer", will take place on March 25 during the Stealth's game versus the Minnesota Swarm at the Comcast Arena at Everett.
The Stealth will be holding its Pink in the Rink event for the third season. Last year, the event raised nearly $20,000 for breast cancer prevention and treatment. This year, the Stealth will be partnering with Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, which houses the Providence Comprehensive Breast Center, the largest center of its kind in the Puget Sound. Together, Providence and the Stealth have titled the fundraiser "Stick It to Breast Cancer".
"As the Stealth has become more integrated into the Washington community, we've come to know about local organizations that do great work," said Stealth owner Denise Watkins. "This year we wanted to focus our fundraising locally in the Puget Sound so we reached out to Providence. The focus for this night is still on women's health issues, particularly around breast cancer and funding for mammograms. In order to kick it up a notch and improve our fundraising, we've decided to go with game worn jerseys, which should create an exciting auction item and bring in even more funds than the helmets we've done in the past."
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Providence Comprehensive Breast Center offers screening and diagnosis, support services and award-winning care to thousands of women in the Puget Sound. Financial contributions to the Providence General Foundation's Comprehensive Breast Center Fund help support the overall mission and work of this important Center. Support directed to the Center is used to fund programs like educational materials for patients, camisoles for women after a mastectomy and screening and diagnostic services regardless of the individual's ability to pay . And with the number of detected breast cancer cases increasing every day, the need for these important support services is only increasing.
"We are thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to partner with the Washington Stealth," says Gayle Jago, Manager of Providence Comprehensive Breast Center. "The Breast Center is an important resource for our community and by supporting the "Stick It to Breast Cancer" fundraiser on March 25, fans will help support education, awareness and services for patients regardless of an individual's ability to pay."
This year, Pink in the Rink will feature an auction of special edition, game-worn pink jerseys worn by the Stealth players during the game. The auction will also have several other Stealth items, as well as items donated by local organizations and sports teams. All of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to the Providence Comprehensive Breast Center fund.
The third annual Washington Stealth Pink in the Rink event, featuring the Providence Comprehensive Breast Center "Stick It to Breast Cancer" fundraiser is Sunday, March 25 at 4:45pm when the Washington Stealth takes on the Minnesota Swarm at the Comcast Arena at Everett. Tickets for the game are on sale now and available by calling 877-MY-75-TIX or at www.stealthlax.com.
