Stealth Lose Eight-Year Veteran In Expansion Draft

October 19, 2004 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
San Jose Stealth News Release

SAN JOSE - San Jose Stealth Managing Director, General Manager and Head Coach Johnny Mouradian announced today that the organization has lost veteran forward Dan Teat in the 2004-05 Expansion Draft to the new Minnesota franchise.

Teat played in all 16 games for the Stealth last season, ranking fourth on the squad in points with 52 (34 goals, 18 assists). His 34 goals was good for third on the Stealth and tied him for 10th in the league.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound native of Brampton, Ontario has been an offensive threat for eight years in the league. In 103 National Lacrosse League games, Teat has collected 303 points (166 goals, 137 assists).

Teat was acquired by the Stealth (formerly the Albany Attack) from the Rochester Knighthawks along with the second overall pick in the 2001 NLL Entry Draft. In his first year in the NLL, Teat helped the Knighthawks win the Champions Cup by defeating the Buffalo Bandits.

"When you choose to protect two goaltenders, that exposes four or five top caliber players that could play in anyone's lineup," said Mouradian. "We wish Dan the best of luck with Minnesota."

Each team was allowed to protect either 10 runners and two goalies or 13 runners and a goaltender from being selected. The Stealth's situation was different from most other NLL teams, as they have two No. 1 goaltenders to protect (Rob Blasdell and Brandon Miller), thus prohibiting the club from protecting more players.

The new Minnesota team selected one player from every team in the NLL, a total of 10 players. The franchise will announce its name and unveil its logo on Monday, October 25.
