Vancouver Stealth News Release
(Vancouver, BC - Friday, March 21, 2014) - The Vancouver Stealth (3-9) lose their third straight to the Calgary Roughnecks (7-5) in a 13-8 loss at the Langley Events Centre on Friday night.
The Roughnecks stormed out of the gates scoring eight unanswered goals to silence the Stealth crowd and chase the Stealth's starting goaltender, Tyler Richards,
"Momentum is a big thing," said Roughnecks head coach, Curt Malawsky.
"You get a lead or you end up chasing from behind and we were in that situation last weekend against Edmonton, so we know how hard it is to claw back."
The Stealth were able to get a few goals of their own in the second quarter but Calgary's Mike Poulin stopped the rest making 21 saves on 23 shots in the first half.
At the end of the first half the Roughnecks had a commanding 8-2 lead and were outshooting the Stealth 26-23.
In the second half the Stealth started to find a little bit of a groove offensively, as Lewis Ratcliff completed the hat trick scoring two of his three goals in the second half. Ratcliff finished with six points (3+3) on the night and was named the game's third star.
The Stealth's second half surge also helped get the home crowd back into the game, as some officiating calls that fans did not agree with provided some extra energy in the LEC. It didn't change the referees call but it got the crowd back into the game and gave the Stealth some life.
Unfortunately the second half run fell a little short tonight as the 8-0 hole proved to be too much for the Stealth to overcome. The Stealth remain winless against their division rivals this season, with one more meeting left next month.
The Roughnecks had two players that really poured it on offensively tonight as Dan Dobie had eight points on the night (4+4) and Curtis Dickson had seven (3+4). Dickson was named the second star of the game and Dobbie took home first star honors.
The Stealth will be back in action next weekend when they host the Buffalo Bandits on Lacrosse Fights Cancer Night at the LEC. Fans will have the opportunity to participate in a limited edition game worn jersey auction with proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Come out and show your support for the fight against cancer and the Stealth's push towards a playoff spot. Game time is 7PM PST on Saturday, March 29 at the LEC.
