SAN JOSE - San Jose Managing Partner, General Manager and Head Coach Johnny Mouradian announced today that the organization has acquired forward Josh Bergey from the Toronto Rock in exchange for hold out forward Tim O'Brien.

Bergey, 25, posted 120 points (72 goals, 48 assists) in 20 games last season for Salisbury State University. His totals ranked him first on the team in points (120), goals (72) and assists (48). Bergey was named First Team All-American in 2003 and the Second Team in 2001. He was also nominated as a candidate for the 2003 Tewaaraton Trophy, the premier collegiate lacrosse award.

In 2001-02 Bergey led the Capital Athletic Conference in scoring with 36 goals, 26 assists and 62 points. He ranked among the national scoring leaders in the most recent NCAA Division III. Bergey, who was converted to attack for being a midfielder, earned Second Team All-America honors in 2001, tallying 19 goals and a team-high 39 assists.

The six-foot, 220-pound native of Philadelphia was originally drafted in the first round (8th overall) in the 2003 NLL Entry Draft.

"Josh comes from a bloodline of good athleticism and we are confident he has the potential to be a real offensive threat for our team in the future," said Mouradian.

Bergey's older brother Jake, is currently the captain of the Philadelphia Wings. He's also the son of five-time NFL Pro Bowl linebacker Bill Bergey, who played for the Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles.

"San Jose is a long way from Philadelphia, but Josh just wants to play and I think out there he will get that opportunity," said Bill Bergey.
