
Stawarz, Rosenblat named Can-Am's top rookies

Brockton OF Brad Rosenblat and New Haven County RHP Jarrett Stawarz have been named the Can-Am League's Rookie Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, as voted upon by league managers.
Rosenblat hit .312 with 12 home runs scored and 36 RBI in 62 games for the second-half champion Rox, leading the league with a .438 on-base percentage and finishing third with a .571 slugging percentage. The New Orleans native came to Brockton after playing college baseball at George Washington University, where in 2005 he was the first-ever Colonial to earn Atlantic 10 Player of the Year honors, leading the conference with 17 home runs, 57 RBI, 66 runs and 20 doubles.
Stawarz went 9-7 in 25 appearances for the Cutters and had a 4.58 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 90.1 innings of work. The Can-Am League's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending July 17, the righthander is scheduled to start for New Haven County in Game 3 of their playoff series vs. Worcester on Friday. A native of Burlington, Conn., Stawarz pitched previously at the University of Hartford, where he led the Hawks in wins and complete games as a senior and finished second on the team in strikeouts (58) and innings pitched (65.1). He also finished his career ranked second on Hartford's all-time strikeouts list (175).
