Huntsville Stars News Release
Chattanooga, TN â In a game that featured 27 hits, 16 runs, three-and-a-half hours of game action and a third-inning fireworks show during a rain delay, it was fitting the outcome remained in doubt in the ninth. Huntsville scored three runs in its last at-bat for a 9-7 win over Chattanooga on Sunday night at Bell South Park. The playoff-bound Stars (35-34) have won two straight with one remaining in the regular season.
The lead see-sawed back and forth, with Huntsville jumping in front, 3-0, only to see the Lookouts tie it, 3-3. After Chattanooga took a 5-3 lead, the Stars drew even, 5-5, before falling behind again, 7-5. Still trailing 7-6 into the ninth, Huntsville rallied against Lookouts closer Kris Keller.
Out of position players, Stars skipper Frank Kremblas pinch-hit pitcher Jeff Housman, who drew a walk to lead off the ninth. Mike Kremblas singled up the middle, and a wild pitch pushed the runners to second and third. J.J. Hardy grounded out to short, scoring Housman and sending Kremblas to third. Corey Hart doubled off the leftfield wall, his third double in the game, plating Kremblas to tie the game. Hart stole third and scored on a single by Brandon Gemoll, who finished 3-for-5 with three runs batted in.
Dave Nolasco (3-2) picked up the win, tossing a scoreless eighth, allowing one hit. Kris Keller (2-1) suffered his first loss, surrendering three runs on three hits and one walk while retiring one batter in the ninth. Brian Adams saved his third game, permitting two hits and no runs in the ninth.
Huntsville matches righty Jason Shelley (3-1, 2.39) against Chattanooga right-hander Steve Kelly (3-2, 2.35) in the regular season finale Monday afternoon. Game time is 1:15 p.m. CT. The Bill Penney Toyota Pre-game Show starts at 1:00 p.m. CT. Stars baseball can be heard on Jammin' 1550 WLOR, ESPN 1450 WTKI and at www.huntsvillestars.com.
