Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Riley Bourbonnais scored the decisive goals for the Lincoln Stars in a 4-3 overtime comeback win against the Waterloo Black Hawks at the IceBox in Lincoln Saturday.
Bourbonnais erased a lead Waterloo had held since the opening period, tying the game 9:15 into the third when he fired a shot under the crossbar. A similar chance hit the net 2:03 into overtime, providing the victory after Lincoln had never led during regulation.
The Black Hawks top three scorers worked together to generate the lone first period goal. Moving the puck from right wing to left on a rush up ice, Taylor Cammarata fed it to Zach Stepan, who then handed it to Justin Kloos, whose successful shot made the score 1-0 at 8:01. Eamon McAdam preserved the margin during a busy period. His 18th save of the frame came on a partial breakaway by Phillip Marinaccio with 15 seconds to play.
Waterloo scored twice in the second, but the Hawks were ultimately unable to pull away. Stepan roofed a shot under the crossbar at 5:08, but less than two minutes later Zach Aston-Reese jabbed a loose puck in the crease over the goal line. Near the tail-end of seven consecutive minutes of power play time, Cammarata banged in a rebound. The goal at 17:40 was answered 29 seconds later by Dominik Shine from close range, returning the Hawks' margin to just a single goal at the second intermission.
McAdam finished the contest with 38 saves as the Stars outshot the Hawks 42-17. Michael Bitzer turned away 14 opportunities on the other end of the rink.
Thursday, the Black Hawks close out February with a contest versus the Tri-City Storm. It's an iWireless College Night, with $7 tickets for all college students when purchased in advance. For seats, call the box office at (319) 291-7680.
