Stars Paint the Town Green

Des Moines, IA - The Des Moines downtown area is currently undergoing a considerable amount of construction. With construction sites on almost every corner the city has become a veritable maze of plywood panels.
In an effort to "dress up" downtown the Iowa stars are partnering with Ryan Construction and Nationwide Insurance in reaching out to area schools to involve their art students in our first campaign to "Paint the Town Green".
This Saturday, September 29th, the art students will be given the opportunity to paint the plywood panels surrounding the Ryan Construction site between 12th and 13th on Locust Street. Students are encouraged to develop and paint their concept of an Iowa Stars theme.
Sherwin Williams will supply the students with 15 gallons of paint and the brushes they will need to complete this task to the best of their ability. Each student will be assigned a section of panels to create their design. The Stars staff will be on hand to distribute water and snow cones as well as select novelty items.
In keeping with the competitive nature of hockey, each panel will be judged on the creative use of the Iowa Stars logo, the uniqueness of the design and the overall appearance. Panels will be judged by select players and coaches on the eve of the Iowa Stars preseason game versus the Quad City Flames on Monday, October 1.
The winner of the contest will be awarded special VIP tickets for their self and their immediate family to attend an Iowa Stars home game in 2007.

*Parents and Students are asked to meet at the Northwest corner of the 12th and Locust intersection at 10:00 AM.
Special Reminder: The Iowa Stars today will hold their October 1st exhibition game versus the Quad City Flames at 95 KGGO Arena in Urbandale. The puck drops at 7:07 PM, doors open at 6:15 PM.
The American Hockey League exhibition game will be free to the general public. Donations will be accepted on behalf of the Des Moines Youth Hockey Association (suggested donation, $5).
General admission tickets are available at the 95 KGGO Arena Ticket Office on a first-come-first-served basis. Iowa Stars full season ticket holders may pick up their guaranteed tickets at the Stars sales office located in Vet's Auditorium.
The Iowa Stars take on the Houston Aeros in their first regular season game on Friday, October 12th at Wells Fargo Arena beginning at 7:07 p.m. Season tickets and Group Express tickets are on sale now.
