Huntsville Stars News Release
To cap off a five-game series in Pensacola and nine-game road trip, the Huntsville Stars lost to the Pensacola BlueWahoos by a final score of 6-4 on Saturday night.
On this night, the BlueWahoos were able to lead from the get go. Highlighted by a sacrifice fly by left fielder Bryson Smith and a two-run single by second baseman Brodie Green, Pensacola scored three runs off of Stars starter Jimmy Nelson in the first inning.
After Pensacola tacked on a run in the third inning once RHP R.J Seidel relieved Nelson, the Stars cut that deficit in half in the fourth inning. Starting with two outs, a single by left fielder Khris Davis that broke up the no-hit bit of Pensacola starting pitcher Wirfin Obispo. The next at-bat, a two-run homer run by first baseman Hunter Morris made the score 4-2. The homer for Morris was his fourth of the series and 19th on the season, putting him in a three-way tie for the most homeruns in the Southern League.
With the BlueWahoos tacking on another run in the bottom half of the fourth on a RBI single by shortstop Bill Hamilton, the score remained 5-2 until the eighth inning where a two-run single by Davis cut the deficit to one. Unfortunately, Pensacola tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning and BlueWahoos reliever Wilkin De La Rosa shut down the door in the ninth for his first save of the season.
In his first start fresh off a month-long disabled list stint, Nelson took the loss, falling to 1-1 on the year after giving up three runs in two innings pitched.
On the road trip, the Stars finished off 6-3 away from Joe Davis Stadium. Huntsville will return home on Sunday to start a five-game series and ten-game home stand as they welcome the Chattanooga Lookouts to town. First pitch is at 4:03.
