Stars Host Breast Health Awareness Night on Friday, August 1

SAN ANTONIO, TX (July 24, 2014) -The San Antonio Stars will host Breast Health Awareness Night on Friday Aug. 1 when the Stars take on the Connecticut Sun at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center. The Stars will sport pink jerseys that will be auctioned-off immediately following the game and will play for the second year on a specially painted pink court. The night will cap off Pink Week, a week of events taking place around San Antonio to help raise awareness for breast health.

During Pink Week, the Stars will partner with several business and community groups to celebrate the survivor spirit and continue the fight against breast cancer. On Monday, survivors are invited to the AT&T Center to be the first group on the pink court. Tuesday night, the pink court will make its national debut on ESPN2 when the Stars host the Chicago Sky at 7 p.m. Wednesday night, the Stars are inviting all fans to Brio for happy hour featuring food and drink specials. A portion of the evening's proceeds will be given to the Friends of CHISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation. Throughout the week, fans can visit Big Apple Bagels and pick up a free ticket to the Aug. 1 game with the purchase of a Pink Bagel.

Immediately following the Breast Health Awareness game on Friday, the entire Stars roster will participate in a live, on-court jersey auction, with proceeds benefitting the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Mobile Mammography Unit (MMU) and Silver & Black Give Back (SBGB).

"We are grateful to the San Antonio Stars for being an active partner in the fight against breast cancer. With their support, we are able to bring life-saving mammograms to underserved women in our community. More than one third of the screenings provided by the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Mobile Mammography Unit must be covered by funds raised through donations," said John E. Bel, chief development officer for the Friends of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Foundation.

The CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Mobile Mammography Unit offers convenient and affordable breast cancer screenings for women in Bexar and 13 surrounding counties, many of whom live a considerable distance from the nearest medical center. Since the opening of the MMU in 2005, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa has provided more than 16,000 mammograms. Outfitted in 2013 with upgraded digital technology, the unit provides an average of 320 screenings per month. Annually, the Mobile Mammography Unit provides approximately 1,000 screening mammograms to women who have difficulty accessing these services because of transportation, financial, cultural or other constraints.
