Stars Fall in Jackson

Jackson, TN-The Jackson Generals jumped all over Huntsville starter Jacob Barnes(2-5) in the first inning leading them to a 5-2 win over the Stars Tuesday night at The Ballpark At Jackson.

In the bottom of the first inning D.J Peterson singled into left field scoring Ketel Marte making it 1-0 Jackson.

Two batters later Pat Kivlehan lined a two-run triple to the alley in right center making it 3-0.

Dario Pizzan capped off the scoring in the first with a sacrifice fly giving the Generals a 4-0 lead.

Jackson extended their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Peterson provided a sacrifice fly.

Barnes, who took the loss pitched 5.1 innings allowing eight hits on five runs. He struck out seven. Barnes gave up seven out of his eight hits in the first two innings before settling down.

The Stars only offense came in the top of the fifth. Hainley Statia drove a two-run homerun over the twenty foot wall in left field. The homerun was Statia's third of the year. It was the only mistake Jackson starter Tyler Olson(5-5) made in the game.

Olson pitched six innings and allowed eight hits on two runs.

Mayckol Guaipe recorded his seventh save of the year in the top of the ninth as he struck out Josh Fellhauer to end the game.

The Stars(16-16, 62-40) and the Generals(13-18, 44-56)are tied at 1-1 in their five-game series. Game three will be Wednesday night. RHP Eric Marzec(1-2, 3.89) will start for Huntsville. Jackson will send RHP Stephen Landizuri(4-2, 3.38) to the hill. The game can be heard with Steve Jarnicki starting at 6:50 pm CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and wtkiradio.com.
