Traverse City North Stars News Release
BOARDMAN, Ohio - The Traverse City North Stars got no closer to breaking a two-year jinx at the Boardman IceZone, suffering an 11th straight loss in that building with a 6-1 setback on Friday night to the Mahoning Valley Phantoms.
Joe Greener put visiting Traverse City on the board first, scoring his sixth goal of the season just 7:43 into the affair off assists from Harrison Niemann and Patrick Nagorsen, but from there is was all Phantoms, as levied the next two goals in the first, a trio of markers in the second, and an insurance tally midway through the third and final stanza.
Stefan Shively stopped 23 of the 29 shots he faced, but the North Stars fell to 13-22-5 and two points behind Marquette for third place in the NAHL North. The Stars and Phantoms (NAHL-best 30-10-1) meet again on Saturday in a 7 p.m. affair.
