Huntsville Stars News Release

Pearl, MS - Brent Suter(2-0) struck out a career high eight batters and threw six shutout innings leading the Huntsville Stars to a 1-0 win Thursday night over the Mississippi Braves at Trustmark Park.

Suter allowed just three hits, all of which were singles. On the season, Suter has allowed just two earned runs in seventeen innings in his three starts.

The Stars scored the only run of the game in the fourth. Jason Rogers singled with one out and advanced to second on a throwing error by Braves starter JR Graham(0-1). Rogers would score two batters later when Mitch Haniger came through with a SAC Fly. It was Haniger's eighth rbi of the season.

Arecenio Leon pitched scoreless innings in the seventh and eighth, stranding the tying runner on base in the eighth.

David Goforth entered the game in the ninth. Matt Lipka reached on an infield single to start the inning. Then Gustavo Nunez advanced him on a sacrifice bunt. Stars first baseman Nick Ramirez made an excellent scoop on a low throw from Goforth to record the out at first. Joe Leonard then grounded out to third and once again Ramirez made a great play at first on the receiving end of a high throw from Rogers. Goforth got the final out as Seth Loman flew out to deep left to end the game.

Goforth has now saved five games in the month of April matching former Stars pitcher and current Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Rob Wooten for the most Stars saves in the month of April.

The Stars improved to 9-5 with the win, while Mississippi falls to 6-8.

The Stars and Braves play the rubber match of their five game series Friday night. RHP Tyler Cravy(1-1,4.82) will start for Huntsville while Atlanta Braves RHP Gavin Floyd will make a rehab start for Mississippi. The game can be heard starting at 6:45 PM with Steve Jarnicki on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and www.wtkiradio.com.
