Huntsville Stars News Release

Jacksonville, FL - A three-run first inning was all the Huntsville Stars needed against the two-time defending Southern League Champion Jacksonville Suns on opening night. Staff ace Wily Peralta threw a gem to lead the way for the Stars, fanning six batters over six innings, giving up just one run and a hit.

On the offensive side, Sean Halton and Taylor Green both drove in two runs and combined for five out of the seven total hits for the team on the night. For the Jacksonville Suns, the only bright spot was shortstop Chris Gutierrez knocking in their lone run of the game. Dallas Trahern took the loss for the Suns going six innings and giving up three runs on four hits. Michael Fiers closed out the game for the Huntsville Stars for just his second save in as many years as Huntsville took the win 4-1.

The Stars and Suns face off again tomorrow night for game two of the five game series. Dan Merklinger will start for Huntsville, while the Suns counter with Omar Poveda.
