[RIO RANCHO, NM] - The Rio Rancho Convention and Visitors Bureau has announced the release of its Sixth Annual "Kids are Tourists Too" coloring book, this year, featuring Stanley The Scorpion, the official mascot of the New Mexico Scorpions professional hockey team, on the cover.

The 2006 version of the ever-popular book contains 60 original drawings of popular tourist attractions in and around the Rio Rancho area. The drawings that make up the book were selected from more than 300 original drawings that were submitted for consideration by the Rio Rancho CVB by area artists, ages six to 19. Subject matter ranges from a Monster Truck Show to be held at the soon-to-be open Rio Rancho Events Center to Scorpions Hockey.

Children from all Rio Rancho schools (elementary, middle, high school and home-schools) were asked by the Rio Rancho CVB to submit art and compete for publication in the annual coloring book. Each entry selected for publication will receive a cash prize of $10.

2,500 books will be printed and distributed to area hotels, the Rio Rancho Chamber of Commerce and other locations. Sponsored by the Rio Rancho Convention and Visitors Bureau, Director Judi Snow said, "This project not only encourages people to explore Rio Rancho and New Mexico, it has been great fun working with our local kids to put it together."

A reception and check presentation for those artists chosen to be published will be held May 10 at 4:00 p.m. at the Rio Rancho City Hall. VIP artists will be honored by City Administrator Jim Palenick, New Mexico Scorpions Coach Ray Edwards, and other Scorpions staffers while Stanley the Scorpion will also be on hand to honor the artists.

Copies of the coloring book will be available to the public at the reception or can be picked up at the Rio Rancho Convention and Visitors Bureau office located at 4011 Barbara Loop, Suite 208, Rio Rancho. All artists have been invited to the reception and will be available for photo ops.
