LAREDO, Texas - The 2006 CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks celebrated their recent Finals win with a huge celebration at the Laredo Entertainment Center last night. The Bucks captured the President's Cup on the road Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center with a 4-3 come from behind victory in Game Five to win the series four games to one over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. More than 3,000 fans turned out to the LEC on Tuesday night celebrate the second championship in franchise history and welcome the team back to the Gateway City. The evening began with a performance by the Lady Bucks Dance team and then immediately progressed into a video highlighting the Bucks championship playoff run.
With the lights out and spotlights circling the players were introduced one by one, culminating with captain Brent Cullaton skating the President's Cup onto the LEC ice. Each player took turns skating the cup while the crowd roared their approval.
"It was a great night," Cullaton said. "It brought the team and the fans back to the feeling when we won the cup in Bossier on Saturday, except now it was in front of our home crowd. You could feel the emotion and it was a fitting end to a great season."
Laredo Mayor Betty Flores presented each player with a framed certificate honoring the team as CHL President's Cup Champions then Bucks majority owner Glenn Hart spoke, thanking the team and the crowd for a tremendous season.
The evening capped with the Bucks spraying champagne, posing for a team picture with the President's Cup and signing autographs for the fans.
BUCKS CHAMPIONSHIP PARADE
- There will be a parade on Saturday honoring the 2006 CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks. The parade will start at 9 a.m. at the LEC and will go to Doctor's Hospital along McPherson street.
