Standouts in Bakersfield Blitz training camp

BAKERSFIELD - Returnees, Eric Mahanke (WR/LB, 6-3, 210) and Alex Wallace (DS, 5-10, 187) and new comers, Mike Wall (QB, 6-4, 215) and DeRonn Finley (WR/DB, 5-9, 185) show off their skills as they stand out among the rest in the Bakersfield Blitz training camp.

Coach Compton commented on the returnees from the 2005 season. "Eric has a lot of experience under his belt. He is a great route runner and will be a vital part of our offense this year. Alex had eleven picks last year; we are looking for him to be part of the foundation in secondary."

Mike Wall spent his college years playing for the University of Tulsa. After joining the Memphis Xplorers as starting quarterback midseason in 2004, he helped lead the Xplorers to the playoffs with an 8-1 record. For the 2005 season, Mike advanced to the AFL as the practice squad quarterback for the Austin Wranglers. "Mike is a very talented quarterback. He has come in wanting to learn and is willing to do what it takes," Coach Compton said.

DeRonn Finley played for the University of Idaho. DeRonn was named "US Army Ironman of the Week" by the arenafootball2 league in 2005 with the Central Valley Coyotes and in 2004 when he was a member of the Green Bay Blizzard. This will be DeRonn's third year playing for the arenafootball2 league. "I pursued DeRonn highly when I took this job. He has great recommendations and can play multiple positions. Look for big things from him this upcoming year," Coach Compton said.

Coach Compton and the rest of the Blitz team will begin making their run toward the championship beginning Thursday, March 30 when the Blitz take on the Everett Hawks in Washington. Their first home game will be Sunday, April 9 when the Blitz battle the Spokane Shock. Kick off is set for 3:00 p.m. at Rabobank Arena.

Season tickets for the Blitz 2006 season are on sale now, as well as single game tickets. Ticket plans start as low as $80 and single game tickets are as low as $10 in the lower bowl. Tickets will be available at the Rabobank Arena box office and any Ticketmaster location.
