Bakersfield Blitz Begin Training Camp for the 2006 Season

BAKERSFIELD - In preparation for their fifth season of play in the twenty-year-old Arena Football League, the Bakersfield Blitz will begin their training camp Saturday, March 11.

The first practice will be held at Bakersfield College. Once available, practices will be held in the Rabobank Arena.

"As far as my staff, we are all excited about the training camp. We have a lot of expectations from the players." Coach Gary Compton said. "We have assembled a lot of good talent; however, our ultimate goal is to win a championship."

The training camp will feature an inner-squad scrimmage on Wednesday, March 15 and a tentative scrimmage against the Central Valley Coyotes at Fresno on Sunday, March 19.

The Blitz roster, which consists of thirty-five players, will be trimmed to thirty players by midnight on Wednesday, March 15. The final roster of twenty-four players is expected by midnight on Monday, March 27. The roster will consist of nineteen players, 2 practice-squad, and 3 injured reserve.

The 2006 season kicks off on Thursday, March 30 when the Blitz take on the Everett Hawks in Washington. Their first home game will be Sunday, April 9 when the Blitz battle the Spokane Shock. Kick off is set for 3:00 p.m. at Rabobank Arena.

The Blitz are bringing in approximately twenty-three newcomers, including 3 rookies, to compete in training camp for roster spots with 9 returning players. Among the familiar faces are Chad Elliot, Alex Wallace, and Nick Onaindia.

Season tickets for the Blitz 2006 season are on sale now. Ticket plans start as low as $80. Single game tickets are on sale Friday, March 10. Tickets are as low as $10. Tickets will be available at the Rabobank Arena box office and any Ticketmaster location.
